Cervical Cancer Screening Device for the Developing World

Though highly treatable, cervical cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide and is often fatal, with 80% of cases occurring in the developing world. This is due in part to a lack of effective screening programs.

Access to life-saving screenings is impeded for many women in developing countries by their remote location, lack of qualified screeners, and social stigma.

A team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania worked with Archimedic to develop a low-cost cervical cancer screening device that can be used by a patient to capture images of her cervix for professional evaluation offsite.
